Matt Nelson
Matt Nelson was born in northern California and raised in southern California. He began his dance journey in 2008, where he immersed himself in Breakdance and Ballroom dancing. In 2009, he expanded his repertoire to include Hip hop.
Throughout high school and college, Matt led Hip Hop and Breakdance Crews, guiding them to compete and win several local dance competitions. During college, Matt served as manager then coordinator of Hip Hop and Breakdance Clubs, and then Area Director of Social Activities. His leadership was instrumental in fostering a vibrant dance culture on campus and ensuring his Crew's success in competitions.
Matt earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and his Master’s in Kinesiology. He currently works as a Design Engineer and a Fitness Coach. Outside of work, Matt enjoys hiking, exploring the outdoors, concerts, Latin dancing, and competing in powerlifting, where he holds several state records.
Matt believes that dance is a rewarding experience that challenges and allows individuals to express themselves through movement while enhancing their abilities and having a great time. He brings a new level of expertise to our Boys Hip Hop class for Season 5.
